Description
Château Moulin Saint-Georges is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate closely associated with the well-regarded Château Ausone. Although sometimes referred to as a junior version of Château Ausone, the terroir at Château Moulin Saint-Georges is quite different. The seven-hectare (17-acre) estate is composed of clay over limestone soils on a flat site and planted to Merlot and some Cabernet Franc. The vines primarily face west to receive extended afternoon sun exposure and average 25 years old
The wine of Château Moulin Saint-Georges is an indicative blend of 80 percent Merlot and 20 percent Cabernet Franc.
Tasting Notes
A beautiful effort from Alain Vauthier, the 2001 Moulin St.-Georges is performing better from bottle than it did from cask. Almost as good as the 2000, it boasts a deep ruby/purple colour as well as a style reminiscent of its renowned sibling, Ausone. Aromas of minerals, acacia flowers, and black raspberries are found in this well-delineated, medium-bodied offering. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years. [90 points, Robert M.
