Description
Corte Sant’ Alda is fast becoming one of the top-flight producers of Valpolicella and Amarone. It is owned by Marinella Camerani and is named after her daughter, Alda. Marinella has 15 hectares of certified organic vineyards located in the foothills of the Lessini Mountains, near the town of Mezzane, about 30km north-east of Verona.
Each wine at Corte Sant’Alda comes from a specific vineyard, chosen according to the specific grape variety, the vine’s age and the preferred training system – so as to ensure a well-defined quality.
The Mithas name is reserved for the very finest wines produced by Marinella. The Mithas wines all come from fruit from the superior, two hectare, Macie vineyard which is rich in humus.
Tasting Notes
The Valpolicella Superiore Mithas by Corte Sant’Alda stems from overripe grapes [Corvina (40%), Corvinone (40%) and Rondinella (20%)] partially refined for 4 years in French oak casks and barriques. An intense ruby and shiny red wine with an intense and varied bouquet of withered violets and black cherries, with a finale that recalls the black pepper, sandalwood and liquorice root. This is an aging wine, full-bodied and intense, with great smoothness and elegance and a tangy, dry mouthful of beautiful freshness and firm tannins.
