Description

Established in 1691 by M. Jodocus CISLE (former name of Zusslin), Domaine Valentin ZUSSLIN is now run by two generations of the Zusslin family who are following in the footsteps of their forbears. The winery is based in Orschwihr, south of Colmar, and the vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. Since 1997, the state has been run in its entirety according to the principles of Bio-Dynamic culture. The vines are mainly worked by hand and a significant amount of time is devoted to caring for the soil!

Tasting Notes

The 2015 Riesling Clos Liebenberg Monopole is super intense and initially incredibly chalky on the iodine and slightly oxidative flor nose (in fact, this reminds me of burnt chalk) that also displays mirabelle and peach or quince-skin notes. On the palate, this is a very elegant, refined and vibratingly fresh and mineral Riesling with enormous finesse, salinity and tension. This is a stunner for 2015. It’s so fresh, linear and pure but certainly substantial, tight and with a lingering salty-mineral expression. A great Alsatian Riesling you shouldn’t miss! .[95+Points, Stephan Reinhardt – October, 2020 – robertparker.com]
