The impressive second wine of Château Belair-Monange, owned and operated by Bordeaux’s legendary Moueix family – the winemakers behind Bordeaux’s most expensive red: Pétrus. Comprising the old estates of Château Magdelaine and Château Belair, this property shares its terroir with the hallowed likes of Châteaux Ausone and Canon.
The Moueix family bought the estate in 2007 and have transformed it into one of Saint Emilions smartest reds, overhauling vineyard management and work in the winery.
Only the second vintage made of this “second wine” and composed of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple coloured 2015 Annonce from Bélair Monange reveals a nose of warm red currants, black cherries and mulberries with touches of cigar box and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with a pleasantly grippy frame and oodles of freshness, it delivers a good amount of youthful red and black fruit flavours with a satisfyingly savoury finish.
