Pol Roger is perhaps best known as Winston Churchill’s favourite Champagne. The house remains family-owned and has a reputation for producing champagnes of finesse and elegance which age very well. The 2015 Brut Blanc de Blancs is exclusively made from Chardonnays selected from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs : Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Produced in limited quantities, this Cuvée has been aged for 6 years in the cellars before being released onto the market.
After the pillowy, chiseled 2013, Pol Roger’s 2015 Brut Blanc de Blancs is cut from richer, broader cloth. Offering up aromas of crisp golden orchard fruit, white flowers and subtle hints of warm biscuits, it’s full-bodied, broad and vinous, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a precise, chalky finish. In style, it’s reminiscent of a somewhat more sun-kissed version of the 2012 rendition. [93 Points, William Kelley – March 2022, roberparker.com]
