Description
Established in 1691 by M. Jodocus CISLE (former name of Zusslin), Domaine Valentin ZUSSLIN is now run by two generations of the Zusslin family who are following in the footsteps of their forbears. The winery is based in Orschwihr, south of Colmar, and the vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. Since 1997, the estate has been run in its entirety according to the principles of Bio-Dynamic culture. The vines are mainly worked by hand and a significant amount of time is devoted to caring for the soil.
Tasting Notes
From a five-hectare monopoly located at the top of the Pfingstberg hill with an orchard in the middle of the vines, grapes were planted in 1975 and sit at 380 metres above sea level. Such an intense nose full of strong petrol notes, white flowers and lemon zest – buttery and toasted tones too. Forward, expressive and alive with some wood spice too, shown by the colour also which is a dark yellow gold in the glass. Bright, full and bold, this is aromatic and lively with such a kick of high, citrus acidity alongside bitter edges and some wild honey and petrol tones. A touch of lemon sherbet gives a zing while a lingering salty, minerality provides a savoury counter. The overall texture and wide mouthfeel carries this through to a long finish.
