Ever since they took over Domaine La Soufrandière in 2000, ever since they created their small scale “haute couture” merchant business called BRET BROTHERS in 2001 (high quality white wines from the Mâconnais region of Burgundy), this is what has been their credo and a source of vibration and passion : the diversity and richness of the terroirs of Burgundy (locally called ” Climats”) and primarily those in the Mâconnais, around one grape variety, Chardonnay.
The 2019 La Carbonnode is a cuvee from La Bonnode that undergoes carbonic maceration that the Bret’s are using to reduce final alcohol levels as the enzymes tend to “eat” more sugar. It has a very striking nose: lemon sherbet, freshly sliced Clementine and a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well balanced with orange rind, peach and honeyed notes.
