Description
Emidio Pepe founded his winery in 1964, after working alongside his father and his grandfather which already back in 1889 were making wine at Casa Pepe. Before anyone else, he strongly believed in the great ageing potential of Trebbiano and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and he dedicated all his energies to those two indigenous grape varietals, proving their incredible potential and showing it to the entire world.
Tasting Notes
The 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne Casa Pepe is perfumed and wildly expressive, wafting up with a bouquet of dried violets, lavender, red plums and exotic spice. This possesses a gorgeous blend of vividly ripe red and blue fruits underscored by saline minerals. Vibrant acidity maintains unheralded energy within. The 2020 finishes structured yet beautifully balanced with a coating of fine tannins that frame the experience without slowing the 2020s momentum. [96 Points, Eric Guido – July 2023, vinous.com]
