Description
Domaine Leflaive is a winery in Puligny-Montrachet, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. The domaine is very highly regarded for its white wines, and its vineyard holdings include 5.1 hectares (13 acres) of Grand Cru vineyards. The earliest roots of the domaine goes back to 1717 and a Claude Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet. In 1920, Leflaive started a programme of replantation with better adapted root stock, and progressively started to sell wine under his own label rather than to négociants. In 1997, Anne-Claude Leflaive took the decision to convert the domain to biodynamic winemaking. Domaine Leflaive and Olivier Leflaive’s négociant business are completely separate entities.
Tasting Notes
Located in Mâcon, two parcels of this vineyard were purchased by Domaine Leflaive in 2003. It is made up of vines as old as 85 years and grows on shallow calcareous clay, resulting in a slightly more complex, fuller-bodied bottling from Mâcon-Village. Hand harvested, sorted, and pressed in Mâcon, the wine is decanted overnight and then brought back to Puligny for both fermentation and aging at the Domaine. The wine ages 12 months in oak (20% new) then 6 months in stainless steel vat before bottling. Straw yellow color with rich stone fruits, floral and biscuit notes. On the palate flavors of apple, peach and ripe pear with citrus, biscuit notes and gentle spice, great mouthfeel. Long finish ending with fruit, vanilla and a mineral tang.
