Description
Thomas Pico was born and raised in Courgis, the village where he lives and works, leaving only to study viticulture and enology in Beaune. He returned in 2004, establishing Domaine Pattes Loup a year later with eight hectares of vines inherited from his family, and he soon won a richly deserved reputation as one of the brightest rising stars in Chablis’s firmament. Pico’s priority is to achieve moderate yields and full maturity. He picks rather later than most of his neighbors, judging the moment to harvest by flavor and appearance rather than laboratory analyses. And the trend to longer and longer maturation on the lees continues, facilitated by new material: most recently an impressive array of new foudres.
Tasting notes
Thomas made this 1er Cru from 30yo vines tended organically in Courgis (from one of the highest vineyards in Chablis). Aged in 4-6yo barrels for two years, then cuve for three months, it is more forward in its youth than his Butteaux, offering very attractive redcurrant fruits on the nose, good weight and vinosity and a lingering finish with a mineral vibration.
Chablis Premier Cru Beauregard offers a rather understated nose, with fruity aromas (citrus and exotic fruit) and iodised, white truffle notes. The palate has excellent volume, richness and plenty of complexity.
