Description
Established in 1691 by M. Jodocus CISLE (former name of Zusslin), Domaine Valentin ZUSSLIN is now run by two generations of the Zusslin family who are following in the footsteps of their forbears. The winery is based in Orschwihr, south of Colmar, and the vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. Since 1997, the estate has been run in its entirety according to the principles of Bio-Dynamic culture. The vines are mainly worked by hand and a significant amount of time is devoted to caring for the soil.
Tasting Notes
This Crémant d’Alsace Brut Zéro NV is a blend of Pinot Auxerrois, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, mostly from the Clos Liebenberg (calcium-rich clay soils with sandstone). This Clos is separate from the rest of the vineyard, allowing total biodynamic and biodiverse practices. Sheep in winter, bees in summer, most parcels are worked with the domain’s horses. No sulphites or additives are used so the wine can express itself naturally. Wines are aged for 15 to 18 months in bottle, spontaneous fermentation with 100% malolactic. Dynamic, with excellent aromatic expression marked by citrus on fine bubbles. The nose opens up to ripe fruits with notes of apricots and peaches. A nicely refined style with quite pronounced acidity, a gentle seam of minerality and a tangy finish.
