Description

From the pioneering days to the establishment of the New Zealand wine industry to today, the Brajkovich family have been internationally recognised as producing world-class wine. Kumeu River Wines encompasses 30 hectares of vineyards, which are predominantly clay soils overlying a sandstone base. Despite being situated well north of New Zealand’s other viticultural regions, Kumeu’s climate is kept cool thanks to its close proximity to the Tasman Sea, just 20km to the west and the Pacific Ocean 30km to the east.

The Village wines represent a level of well-crafted wines from the care and attention shown to the Estate and Single Vineyard wines. These wines are made from sustainably grown grapes that are hand-harvested, fermented using only wild yeast with extended maturation on yeast lees and bottled in our cellars in Kumeu. Suitable for all occasions and ready to drink now.

Tasting Notes

The first ever sparkling wine produced from Kumeu River, a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. It spends three years on the lees before being sealed with a crown cap for its final bottling. The nose here is flinty, smoky and ripe with lemon curd and brioche. The palate has great zip from lively acidity, a little phenolic grip giving great texture, and real breadth of brioch and cream underneath its citrus fruit character. Through the mid palate there are notes of baked and honeyed apples, giving a refreshing, lifted, and long, complex finish. Absolutely delicious and a fantastic addition to the range of wines coming from this estate.
