Description
Established in 1691 by M. Jodocus CISLE (former name of Zusslin), Domaine Valentin ZUSSLIN is now run by two generations of the Zusslin family who are following in the footsteps of their forbears. The winery is based in Orschwihr, south of Colmar, and the vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. Since 1997, the estate has been run in its entirety according to the principles of Bio-Dynamic culture. The vines are mainly worked by hand and a significant amount of time is devoted to caring for the soil.
Tasting Notes
The NV Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé (LI 3841) is a 100% biodynamic Pinot Noir from the Bollenberg, harvested in 2014 and disgorged in February 2016. The pale pink Rosé has a very clear, fresh and elegant bouquet of crispy, smoked Speck and raspberries. The palate is round and rich but very elegant. It shows more oak influence than the Brut Zéro in terms of grip and flavors. The Brut style gives the wine a certain richness, which makes it perfect with roasted fish and even dishes with a toasted Speck component. [91 Points, Stephan Reinhardt– August 2016, robertparker.com]
